Breeders
The Leonberger Association of Victoria recommends that potential puppy buyers purchase their puppy from a registered breeder who also belongs to an official Leonberger club and, as such, is part of a Leonberger community working with their peers to maintain this beautiful breed.

We also strongly suggest you do your research about health issues affecting the breed and contact as many breeders as possible so as to get a varied and balanced picture. This will also assist you to find a breeder whose breeding ethics, puppy contract etc you are comfortable with.

The Leonberger Association of Victoria would like to further point out that occasionally superficial traits are produced that do not conform to breed standard eg. chocolate coloured puppies. While such a trait has nil affect on the puppy’s potential to be a fabulous pet, there is no logical reason why a puppy buyer should be paying more for it than the price charged for a puppy that does conform to breed standard. It is a rare trait because it is a 'throwback' and not what most breeders aim to produce. The Leonberger Association of Victoria does not support anyone deliberately breeding for these traits and marketing the puppies as a rarity at a premium price.
